Jim Leshaw is a longtime Floridian with roots dating to the turn of the 20th century.
His family owns one of only seven remaining historic Stiltsville homes — dating back to the 1920s — a group of wooden homes built on concrete pilings located one mile south of the Cape Florida Lighthouse on the edge of Biscayne Bay in the boundaries of Biscayne National Park.
Like Jim’s family, the area has a colorful past and has been the subject of several books, films and of course. Jim takes pride in his family history and sits on the Board of Directors of the Stiltsville Trust, a group charged with preserving Stiltsville. He also is a former board member of the Florida Historical Society.
Jim is an avid outdoor sportsman who believes in preserving South Florida’s crystal clear bays, inlets and ocean, while enjoying the great sailing, boating and fishing they provide.
He is a member, Board of Directors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center, a not-for-profit organization located at the North end of the Crandon Park on Key Biscayne, that’s dedicated to protecting the area’s irreplaceable natural resources through education and advocacy.
When Jim isn’t boating, water skiing or fishing with his family, he likes to race sailboats and promote international races. He is the former Youth Sailing Director at Key Biscayne Yacht Club and past board member of the International Volvo Ocean Race Miami, Inc.
Now that Jim is living and working in Key Biscayne you can find him riding his bike to work, weather permitting, on any given day.
